The new traffic sign for zero-emission zones and environmental zones consists of two parts. The top sign, the zone sign, shows that you are entering an area where certain vehicles emitting harmful substances are not allowed. This is a white sign with the text 'ZONE' and a red circle containing a car that produces exhaust fumes. Below it hang signs indicating which vehicles are not allowed in this zone. Zero-emission zones and environmental zones each have their own sub-signs by which they can be recognized.
Traffic sign zero-emission zone
In a zero-emission zone, in the long term, no delivery vans and trucks running on petrol, (bio)diesel, or LPG will be allowed. The transition will happen in phases, allowing businesses and individuals time to switch to clean transport. Municipalities with a zero-emission zone will place the zone sign in the next six months, with a sign below it indicating a delivery van and truck.
More information about the access rules can be found at opwegnaarzes.nl/toegangsregels. Want to know if your vehicle is still allowed in the zero-emission zone? Check your license plate at kentekencheck.opwegnaarzes.nl.

Traffic sign environmental zone
An environmental zone applies to trucks, buses, and vans that run on diesel. In Amsterdam, Arnhem, The Hague, and Utrecht, the environmental zone also applies to diesel passenger cars. In environmental zones, the zone sign will be displayed with several signs below it indicating which vehicles are not allowed in the environmental zone. This depends on the emission class. The combination of emission class and vehicles listed on the sign are not allowed access.
