Start with the basics: the office
The temptation may be great to work on your laptop on the couch or at the dining table, but that is not advisable for your body. When setting up a home office, start by selecting an adjustable desk and an ergonomic office chair. With an adjustable desk, you can work both sitting and standing, and an ergonomic office chair can be adjusted so that you automatically adopt a good working posture (knees and elbows at a 90-degree angle). If you want to make the office multifunctional, it is advisable to choose as much furniture on wheels as possible, so that you can easily move the pieces. Also consider lighting, such as a desk lamp.
Sleeping accommodation
Do you want to use the home office as a guest room from time to time? Then you need to create sleeping accommodation. This can be done, for example, with the aforementioned folding bed, but if you want two people to be able to sleep in the space, opt for a sofa bed. Sofa beds come in various styles, from spacious corner sofas to comfortable loveseats, so there is always a sofa bed that fits in your home office. Turn it into a stylish sitting area where you can also receive clients to kill two birds with one stone.
Create extra storage space
It is a smart idea to create sufficient storage space in your home office. You can do this, for example, by dedicating an entire wall to custom cabinets. Think carefully about what kind of storage space you need for your work (filing cabinet, bookshelf, office supplies) and then consider what storage space you need for your personal belongings. This could be a wardrobe to store your winter clothes, a cabinet for linens, or a cabinet with drawers and shelves, so you can store both your game collection and your supply of toiletries in it. If you combine a home office and a guest room, it is nice for guests to have storage space for their clothes and other belongings.
Kitchenette and bathroom
If you have the opportunity to realize your home office in, for example, a tiny house or outbuilding, you might consider turning it into a complete guest accommodation. This does mean that you need to install additional facilities, such as a kitchenette and a (compact) bathroom with a shower and toilet. The advantage is that guests do not have to constantly stay in your space, which is certainly pleasant for longer stays. If you frequently use your home office, it is advisable to make it a lockable space with its own entrance, so you do not have to disturb your guests when you are working.
