1: What is the cable used for?

We start with the most important point: what is the cable used for? USB C cables may seem universal, but in practice, there are indeed differences. Therefore, always check which USB-C cable is suitable for the hardware you are working with.

If you use a charging cable for data transfer, it will go unnecessarily slow. And vice versa: are you charging your phone with a cable that is actually meant for data transfer? Then you will need some patience as well.

Make sure you know exactly what the cable is used for and check the functionalities of the cables you buy.

2: What charging power do you need?

Do you want to use the cable to charge devices? Always check the charging power. These vary quite a bit. For example, you have cables with a power of 60 Watts, but also cables that can deliver 240 Watts.

Smartphones and small accessories can be charged well with a somewhat lower power. Is the cable intended for laptops, tablets, or other heavier devices? Then you need a higher power to charge efficiently.

3: Short or long cable?

Always pay attention to the length of the cable. This may seem like an unimportant detail, but it certainly affects usability. Are the devices always close to each other or close to the outlet? Then short cables are the most convenient. Long cables can quickly look messy and get in the way.

However, if a bit more flexibility is needed, then longer cables are actually better.

4: Cheap is usually expensive

Don’t just look at the price when purchasing USB-C cables. Just like with many things, the saying goes: cheap is often expensive. Cheap cables wear out faster and do not always provide the hoped-for performance. Therefore, go for a good price-quality ratio. You can find this, for example, at Goedekabels.nl.

5: Limit the number of different cables

Do you use many USB-C cables within your company? Then try to limit the number of different cables. Working with the same type of cable as much as possible creates clarity and efficiency. For example, work with one or two specific cables for data transfer and one or two specific cables for charging. This way, you prevent confusion.

Bonus tip: an adapter

There are many different types of USB cables and connectors. In many companies, devices can be found with different types of connections. Do you want to connect a USB-C cable to another USB connector? Then use an adapter. This is also called a converter.
