'We are excited to offer travelers the ability to view both flight and selected train options side by side,' said Brian Plaum, Travel Expert at Skyscanner. 'There are many routes where both modes of transport are available, and this overview will be a valuable addition to travelers' decision-making process.'
One search query, more options
With the new update, travelers no longer have to guess: relevant travel options are now clearly displayed in one familiar search environment. Travel times and prices appear side by side, making them easy to compare, without the hassle of switching between different websites or apps.
Flying is ideal when it fits, but for some journeys, the train may be the better choice: with beautiful views along the way, the ability to take as much luggage as you want, and a relaxed boarding experience.
Train results are now available for selected routes across borders from the Netherlands, as well as for selected domestic and international routes in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, and South Korea.
Skyscanner shows train routes when they present a practical alternative to flying, meaning: direct journeys of less than eight hours or with one simple transfer. The departure date must also be within 90 days of the search date.

Responding to changing travel needs

Research from Skyscanner shows:
- On average, 1 in 4 travelers wants to see train options alongside flights; 21% are even more likely to book a train when a comparison with a flight is visible.**
- 81% of travelers indicate that sustainability is important to them, but many still feel overwhelmed when trying to make more sustainable travel choices.***
The new feature helps simplify these decisions. By clearly showing travel time and price in one place, including train options, which typically cause lower emissions than flying, travelers can more easily see what best fits their journey.
Adding train options is the latest step in Skyscanner's mission to help travelers make informed and confident choices about how they reach their destination.
'We see great benefits for vacationers traveling through Europe or even further,' Plaum added. 'Using the new Skyscanner search function to compare trains and flights is especially useful when traveling for specific events. Those following a musician or sports team to a fixed destination may be less aware of the various available options, convenience, or associated costs. Comparing results can save you extra time at the event and save money.'
Try it now by searching for your next route on your desktop via Skyscanner. Visibility in the app will follow later.
