Increasing transparency

The way refurbished devices are inspected and refurbished varies greatly by provider. As a result, it is often unclear to consumers what exactly they are buying and what technical quality they can expect. Transparent product information is therefore essential. Consumers should be able to easily see which checks a device has undergone, what the condition of important components like the battery is, and what warranty is offered.

European standard

Additionally, ideally, an independent quality mark will be established at the European level. This provides consumers with certainty about quality and prevents the emergence of different labels or quality marks created by the sector itself. There are already quality marks in circulation, but the requirements vary widely. A uniform and independent quality mark, based on uniform standards, ensures more transparency and a fairer playing field, and also makes it easier for consumers to compare refurbished devices and strengthens trust in the entire market.

Crucial for climate goals

Extending the lifespan of electronics is one of the most effective ways to reduce the environmental impact of technology. If we take the climate goals for 2030 seriously and want to reduce COÔéé emissions by 55%, we need to be smarter about the devices we already have. Refurbished can play an important role in this – provided transparency, clear rules, and trust for consumers become the norm.
