In the new season of Thinking of Holland, Janny van der Heijden and André van Duin explore the Netherlands again from the water. The well-known duo is eager to discover new places. This year, Janny and André sail over the Gelderse IJssel, go to André's birthplace: Rotterdam, visit fortified cities Gorinchem, Woudrichem, and Heusden, and enjoy the winding Overijsselse Vecht. Of course, ship's dog Nhaan is also along for the ride, keeping an eye on things.

Thinking of Holland - Episode 1 – Gelderse IJssel – Saturday, August 26, 10:05 PM on MAX on NPO 1

Janny and André sail from Zutphen to Arnhem over the Gelderse IJssel. Along the way, they pass the smallest town in the Netherlands: Bronkhorst. In the Hanseatic city of Doesburg, Janny and André get to make mustard themselves. After that, the boat trip continues past the beautiful Castle Middachten, which is still privately inhabited by a count. Janny and André end in Arnhem, where they enjoy real Arnhem girls, a local delicacy. Together with Mayor Marcouch, they climb the Eusebius Church and overlook Arnhem from a high glass balcony.

Thinking of Holland - Episode 2 – Rotterdam – Saturday, September 2, 9:35 PM on MAX on NPO 1

This week, it is not Janny, but André who determines the sailing route. They reach his birthplace: Rotterdam via Schiedam. André's childhood home in Delfshaven makes his heart race, as do the accompanying memories. The next day, a well-known Rotterdammer sails with Janny and André over the Maas. The trip ends – much to André's delight – with a Rotterdam culinary specialty: Uierboord.

Web series Janny sails well

Janny has been sailing through the Netherlands for Thinking of Holland for years. On the water, she sees a lot happening that surprises her. Why can't you change the name of your boat, how do you go through a lock without breaking anything, and why do you break a bottle of champagne when naming a ship? For the web series Janny sails well, Janny observes people who work and live on and around the water every day. Think of lock keepers, harbor masters, the water police, and ferry operators. She seeks answers to these and other questions from them. The web series can be seen from August 26 on NPO Start.
