Patrick sees a similar pattern in many organizations: work becomes more complex, responsibilities grow, but the conversation about mental strain is absent. And while absenteeism due to stress is now one of the largest causes of absenteeism. According to Psyned, an employee who is absent is on average 240 days not fully in the work rhythm. But not every absenteeism is visible: the employee who 'just keeps working' but has mentally already checked out may be the biggest risk factor. Psyned calls that pink absenteeism – physically present, but mentally exhausted.

In this edition of Baaz, you will read among other things how to recognize and prevent pink absenteeism. Patrick also takes you through the added value of a company psychologist and we look at the role AI plays in work pressure. Additionally, we will guide you through the construction of a healthy workplace, even in hybrid teams.

The Importance of Humanity in a Digital World

An open, safe work culture is essential. But in a world where work and private life increasingly blur, that is easier said than done. Patrick advocates for accessible mental support, such as MindMatters or an on-site company psychologist. Not only to address complaints but to accelerate cultural change. 'Work can be part of recovery,' he says. 'Not by sending people home, but by truly listening and solving bottlenecks together.'

And AI? It certainly has a role – but with clear boundaries. At Psyned, AI only supports where it does not replace a human: in registration, reporting, or administrative processes. Diagnoses or treatment content always remain human work. "We work with vulnerable people. Experimental technology does not fit there," Patrick states emphatically.

If you want to responsibly integrate AI into your work culture, it starts with trust. Patrick shares a series of guidelines: be transparent, give employees autonomy, ensure privacy, and provide training. Only then can AI help alleviate work pressure, rather than increase it.
