Hybrid working simply means that you have found a good balance between working from home and working in the office. The balance is best when you have a place at home where you can work in complete peace. A home office, for example, in the attic or in a garden shed, as long as the workspace has an internet connection and you can comfortably work behind your laptop.

Together with colleagues

Working in the office has its advantages, of course. You are approachable for colleagues and you can drop by each other to have a nice chat over a cup of coffee about a report (for example). It is very important to stay in touch with your colleagues and with the company, so that you do not become estranged from each other. Therefore, make sure that you are in contact with your colleagues enough.

Making progress at home

Since the lockdowns, many employees have noticed how nice it is to work from home. Especially parents get to see their children a bit more, which is good for strengthening family bonds. In addition, many employees find that you can really make progress at home. After all, you are not interrupted as much as in the office, which allows you to be much more focused and productive. Of course, be mindful of distractions, such as the washing machine and that game on the tablet, and leave them aside.

Suitable home workspaces

You can work in many different places at home. The most important thing is that you can work in complete peace, have a good chair to sit on, and of course an internet connection. A home office can therefore be located at the dining table, but also in the attic, in the basement, or in that empty corner of the bedroom. If you still want to feel like you are not really working from home, a garden shed is recommended. And what do you think of a terrace canopy with a glass wall, like the one found at foravida.nl, so you can stay warm and still have a view of the garden. The glass sliding wall is nice to be able to close off the terrace that is otherwise open on one side. To be able to work under the terrace canopy even on cold days, you can choose an electric heater. This way, you actually create an extra room from your terrace.

Green inspires

It really depends on what kind of work you do. But when you sit behind the computer all day, a bit of nature is extra necessary. Therefore, it is good to take a lunch walk in the fresh air at the office and to have some plants in the office. If you work from home from your terrace under the canopy with a glass wall, then inspiration lies in your garden. Also bring some greenery under the canopy in the form of (hanging) plants and perhaps a vase with flowers. Regularly take a stroll through the garden, step into the sun with your cup of coffee, and enjoy the fresh air. On warmer days, you can simply open the glass sliding wall for this fresh air.

Make good agreements

Working from home is very nice, especially when you make good agreements about it with your manager and colleagues. So clearly indicate on which days you can be found at your hybrid workplace at home. But also why you are working from home. Maybe you want to work on a report in complete peace, without distractions. Or work out plans for the next quarter. By making good agreements and indicating in a shared calendar whether a colleague is available or not, hybrid working becomes much easier. Moreover, you then know exactly what you can expect from each other.

Better balance between private and work

The reason we find working from home so nice is due to the better balance between work and private. For example, now you can all sit together for dinner. And of course that chat after school with your children before they go back to the sports club or have to do their homework. If you notice that you are more productive when you can work alone, then it is good to bring up the idea of creating more 'home' spaces in the office. For example, by creating separate rooms where you can really work completely alone. Bring something from home that helps you concentrate in the office, such as a plant or a family photo. Ask if you can take some time to WhatsApp with the kids when they come home from school. Those little things significantly improve your work attitude.
