ScanBizCards is an app that allows you to 'scan' business cards with your smartphone. Handy, it reduces clutter and you have all the information digitally at hand.

The principle is simple: take a photo of a business card and the app automatically recognizes all the details. You can then save the contact digitally on your smartphone and add it to your contact list.

However, it doesn't work perfectly. Text is recognized well, but this is not the case for numbers and other symbols than letters, such as at signs and ampersands.

And that is annoying, because the most important data often consists of phone numbers, email addresses, and website addresses. You can manually adjust everything, but that should only be necessary in extreme cases, while it seems to be standard with this app, which is a shame. Fortunately, you still have the photo with the information, so you always have the correct information at hand.

The integration with various CRM packages and LinkedIn is very well done. The app supports CRM applications like Zoho, Sugar, Jigsaw, and Salesforce. You can directly add contacts to the CRM software. If a LinkedIn profile is mentioned on the business card, you can automatically add him or her to your LinkedIn account.

The built-in collection bin for photographed business cards feels useless. We understand that as a developer, you want to give an app volume, especially if it also comes in a paid version like ScanBizCards. But at least have a normal search function built in. Now you have to go through a visual card catalog of all scanned cards, and that takes time.

The ScanBizCards app is a good idea with a reasonable execution, but it can be annoying in daily practice. As long as it doesn't work one-to-one, there is no reason to throw your paper business card into the fire, something we were hoping for. What a shame.

ScanBizCards is available for free (with ads) as well as in a version that costs 5.35 euros.

You can find the Android version here. If you have an iPhone, you can get your fix here.
