New premium SUV from DS focuses on comfort, technology, and great electric range
Electric driving is no longer just about efficiency or sustainability. Especially in the business segment, drivers today also expect comfort, appearance, and high-level technology. With the new DS N°7, DS Automobiles aims to deliver exactly that combination.
The successor to the DS 7 appears as a premium compact SUV with fully electric powertrains, a hybrid variant, and a striking focus on refinement, tranquility, and long distances. Especially the fully electric E-TENSE LONG RANGE version stands out with a WLTP range of up to 739 kilometers. This positions DS firmly among established premium brands in the business SUV segment.
A business SUV focused on comfort and appearance
While many electric SUVs look primarily futuristic or technological, DS opts for a more luxurious and elegant approach. The DS N°7 combines a sleek silhouette with subtle French design influences and striking lighting, including the new DS LIGHT BLADE signature and the illuminated DS LUMINASCREEN grille.
Inside, everything revolves around comfort and tranquility. The rear doors have become larger, the panoramic roof lets in more light, and depending on the variant, the SUV features amenities such as heated lounge seats, acoustic laminated glass, and a FOCAL audio system.
For business drivers who are often on the road, these are not small details. Especially now that the car is still an extension of their workday for many professionals, the focus is increasingly shifting from pure performance to driving comfort and user experience.
Up to 739 kilometers of electric driving
The biggest asset of the DS N°7 seems to be the driving range for now. The E-TENSE FWD LONG RANGE achieves a maximum of 739 kilometers on a single charge according to the WLTP cycle. Even at highway speeds, more than 450 kilometers would be achievable.
This addresses an important pain point for business EV drivers: charging stress during long trips.
The electric variants will be available in multiple configurations:
- 230 hp E-TENSE FWD
- 245 hp E-TENSE FWD LONG RANGE
- 350 hp E-TENSE AWD LONG RANGE with all-wheel drive
Fast charging is possible with up to 160 kW, allowing the larger battery to be charged from 20 to 80 percent in about 27 minutes.
Technology should reduce mental load
Notably, DS positions technology not just as a gadget, but primarily as support while driving. This is reflected in systems like DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0, which enables semi-autonomous driving at level 2.
Additionally, the DS N°7 features functions such as:
- DS PIXELVISION with adaptive lighting
- DS NIGHT VISION for detecting pedestrians and animals
- An extensive head-up display
- ChatGPT integration via DS IRIS SYSTEM 2.0
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
For entrepreneurs and business users, it ultimately comes down to one thing: fewer distractions and more focus on the road. Especially during long workdays, driving comfort is increasingly linked to productivity and mental peace.
Also available as a hybrid
Not every business driver is ready for fully electric. Therefore, DS also offers the N°7 as HYBRID 145, where a gasoline engine works together with an electric motor and 48V battery.
According to DS, this variant can drive fully electric in urban environments for about half the time. The average consumption is 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers.
This keeps the hybrid version interesting for business drivers who want to electrify but do not yet want to be fully dependent on charging infrastructure.
Premium positioning with hefty price tags
The DS N°7 clearly enters the premium segment. The fully electric version starts at €47,000, while the well-equipped LA PREMIÈRE variant approaches €69,000.
This places DS in a market where Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo are also active. The difference should primarily lie in the combination of French luxury, comfort experience, and technology.
Whether that is enough to convince business drivers en masse will have to be seen in the coming years. But it is clear that premium electric driving is increasingly about the overall experience — and not just about range or performance.
