The composition of the market is changing
The composition of the market is visibly shifting. The number of young motorcyclists aged 18 to 25 has doubled in recent years, which OSW also sees reflected in practice. Especially A2 and mid-range motorcycles are popular due to mobility, freedom, and low operating costs. Additionally, those aged 65 and older form a growing group. They maintain their motorcycles well and document everything thoroughly, which increases buyer confidence.
Moreover, there are clear differences between segments: some categories remain structurally for sale longer, while others are sold quickly. For example, Italian motorcycles and Harleys often stay on the market longer, while Japanese motorcycles typically receive multiple bids quickly. Furthermore, the increase in imported motorcycles from Germany, Belgium, and Italy provides a broader supply, making transparency in sales increasingly important.

Asking prices do not always align with the current market
Many private sellers still base their asking prices on the peak years between 2021 and 2023, when demand was exceptionally high and supply was limited. However, buyers today take more time, compare prices, and are less inclined to make impulsive purchases. Small uncertainties, such as a dead battery, can already be a reason to pass on a motorcycle.
'Now that the market has normalized and buyers have more choices, an excessively high asking price stands out immediately,' says Renaldo Molenbeek, co-founder of OSW. 'When sellers' expectations do not match what buyers are willing to pay, motorcycles remain on the market longer. Ultimately, a price adjustment often follows.'

The market stabilizes towards a new equilibrium
OSW expects that the used motorcycle market will remain stable in the coming period, without extreme peaks or sharp declines. Supply and demand are gradually moving towards a new equilibrium. For private sellers, this means that a realistic price, transparency, and a careful sales process remain crucial for a successful sale.
'Buyers primarily look at the condition of the motorcycle and want certainty,' Molenbeek explains. 'Successful selling revolves around a realistic price ├®n the trust that buyers gain.'
