Safe and trusted identification

iDIN is an initiative of Currence, a collaboration of the major Dutch banks. With iDIN, Dutch people can safely identify themselves via their bank app at web shops, insurers, and other online services. For the approximately 300 affiliated websites, iDIN provides certainty about the identity of customers and saves the need for a separate login system. Currently, around 13 million Dutch people can use iDIN.

European identity app with proven experience

itsme is an independently operating company founded by Belgian major banks and telecommunications services. It is an experienced player in the field of digital identity and is recognized as a European identity solution at the highest level of reliability within the eIDAS regulation. The app is known for its ease of use, accessibility, and security.
In Belgium, itsme serves not only as a digital ID for commercial organizations (just like iDIN) but also for government websites, similar to DigiD in the Netherlands. More than 80% of the adult population in Belgium uses and trusts the app. With the acquisition of iDIN, itsme takes the first major step outside Belgium.

The transition from iDIN to itsme

The transition from iDIN to itsme will begin in the spring of 2026 after the fulfillment of conditions agreed upon by the parties and is expected to be completed in 2028. From June 2026, consumers will be able to log in to affiliated services with the itsme app in addition to iDIN. In 2028, iDIN will fully merge into itsme. Both consumers and the affiliated companies will be kept informed about every step in the integration process.

A future-proof solution

The acquisition of iDIN by itsme provides a future-proof solution that aligns with European regulations and the growing need for a secure digital identity. This strengthens the trust of consumers and organizations in online transactions.

Daniel van Delft, CEO Currence: 'With iDIN, the banks have offered a safe and trusted way of digital identification over the past ten years. Now the banks are taking the next step in this. itsme has a strong track record and complies with all regulations and is focused on innovation, making it the ideal partner to prepare iDIN for the future.'

Tom Van Den Bosch, CEO itsme: 'With the acquisition of iDIN, we strengthen our position as the European standard for digital identity. iDIN is a trusted name in the Netherlands, and by joining forces, we are preparing for the future: one solution that combines ease of use with the highest international standards. Our goal is clear: a strong, reliable digital identity for everyone, everywhere, and always.'
