MySunCruiser showcases innovative rotation concept for sunbathing and lounging
WoodCruise will be presented internationally as the lounge furniture of the future during the 60th edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Dutch designer and owner of MySunCruiser, Luc Zwinkels, has been selected to exhibit his design from June 7 to 12. He is part of the Masterly Milan exhibition in the heart of the city. Zwinkels aims to put rotating sunbathing and lounging on the map worldwide. The WoodCruise is an automatically rotating sunbed that offers a unique lounge experience, allowing users to rotate almost unnoticed with the furniture in slow motion while sunbathing. This results in an even tan and reduces skin strain. Additionally, the slow rotation is very relaxing. WoodCruise is the masterpiece of Luc Zwinkels, where his qualities as a designer and skilled furniture maker come together. The furniture is entirely handmade from solid teak and mahogany using techniques from high-quality yacht building. The WoodCruise will be on display in the renowned Dutch pavilion at Palazzo Francesco Turati. This is the first time the MySunCruiser brand is presenting itself at the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Moving in the sun
Luc Zwinkels, owner of MySunCruiser and designer of the WoodCruise: "I love sunbathing, but I kept hearing people around me talk about the possible negative effects of it. When people started staying out of the sun for this reason, it prompted me to take action. In my profession as a designer, restorer, and woodworker, I come across many different pieces of furniture. However, an automatically rotating sunbed did not exist yet. For that reason, I started MySunCruiser and designed a lounge piece: the WoodCruise."
Zwinkels continues: "We should seek out sunlight; in fact, we need sunlight for the production of vitamins. However, we should do so responsibly for our skin, body, and mind. Because the furniture rotates, the body not only tans more evenly, but excessive strain is also prevented, which means one burns less quickly. Additionally, the gentle rotation is experienced as very relaxing, almost a meditative experience. The WoodCruise ensures that you can optimally relax in our sometimes hectic existence. The lounge furniture WoodCruise can be used for private settings but is also certainly suitable for wellness centers and terraces of beach clubs, hotels, restaurants, and yachts."
Craftsmanship techniques
Nicole Uniquole, the curator of the Dutch Pavilion, selected designer Luc Zwinkels because she is charmed by the design and its luxurious appearance. She praises the craftsmanship techniques applied and the high-quality finish of the WoodCruise. Zwinkels is known as a restorer and furniture maker under the name Lucas Carpinus. He has worked on the interior of the Royal Palace on the Dam in Amsterdam and the Nieuwe Kerk in Delft.
"That Nicole Uniquole has selected me is a tremendous honor: my showcase piece is now being presented to a large international audience. I hope to meet many sun lovers here and convince them that sunbathing can also be responsible. Additionally, I would like to connect with partners and agents to produce and market the WoodCruise and other models," says Luc Zwinkels.
The future of sunbathing
By steaming and planing the hard teak and mahogany wood, Zwinkels was able to bend the material and model it into the right shape. He chose a classic, maritime look and a round model. The diameter is 2.42 meters (external measurement); the height is 60 cm. The lounge furniture is suitable for four seasons of outdoor use, has drainage points, and outdoor cushions. The rotation is adjustable with infrared. The raised edge provides a pleasant feeling of shelter. With these innovations, MySunCruiser clearly reaches further into the future. Users of the WoodCruise describe it as a rare relaxing experience, with both movement and tranquility. The rotating platform is completely hidden from view and, like the rest of the furniture, weather-resistant. In addition to the WoodCruise, several other models are available, such as the ClubCruise, FlowerCruise, and CaribCruise.
