In The Seasons we see the Netherlands at its most beautiful in each of the seasons; four very different faces. Humans do not have to conform, but it is tempting to sway along with the rhythm of the seasons. What stands out: people know exactly how a season smells, how it should look, and what rituals and customs belong to it. They are taught this from a young age. Ask a preschooler to draw winter and a snowman appears, spring is a bird's nest, in autumn the leaves fall, and in summer the sun is central. But is that all correct? And does human behavior still align with the seasons? What do we actually do in spring, summer, autumn, and winter? Do people still live with the seasons, or do they actually determine them?
Episode 1 – Spring - Sunday, June 25 at 8:20 PM on MAX on NPO 2.
Spring, you feel the season before you see it. It is light longer and that activates us, even before it is warm. Hormones are stimulated. Winter and everything that happened earlier is forgotten. A period of naive hope begins. For Midas, spring is a childlike season. Even if you have experienced nearly eighty springs, you can still expect anything from it. It’s strange, but the expectation remains. Nothing has happened yet, nothing has gone wrong, and everything is still possible.
