PeopleFirst Group launches the platform SecondJob.nl to help workers find a second job alongside their current (part-time) job. Based on personal preferences such as which working days, the available number of hours, and the type of work, SecondJob.nl provides an overview of relevant job vacancies for a second job. In this way, SecondJob.nl opens the doors to unused labor potential. Currently, this is a group of 1.1 million Dutch people. This largely concerns (45%) unused part-time workers.
491,000 Dutch people who want to work more hours
The Netherlands is facing a structural problem in the labor market. At the end of the first quarter of 2022, an unprecedented high number of 451,000 vacancies were open. This offers opportunities for the 491,000 Dutch people who indicate they want to work more hours, alongside the part-time job they currently have. This is a group that is hardly being addressed in recruitment, but can now be easily reached by employers through SecondJob.nl. Employers who have vacancies filled by different people create more agility and resilience in the department. This ensures better continuity.
Edwin Schaap, managing director of SecondJob: "At this moment, we are collectively maintaining the problem of those 451,000 vacancies when we as employers continuously take people away from other jobs. By addressing new potential instead of taking it from elsewhere, we are actually tackling the problem. In fact, every job lends itself to a 'second job'. Employers are constantly looking for good personnel, but finding someone for forty hours a week is extremely difficult."
Side jobs and the Tax Office
When having a second job, concerns often arise about how this is handled with the Tax Office. The Tax Office has no issues if someone has multiple employers. To prevent an employee from receiving too much tax credit, the tax credit can only be applied with one employer at a time. The credit that you may possibly miss out on monthly as an employee will still be granted to you at the end of the year during your income tax return. A second job is also legally permitted, unless there is a prohibition on side jobs included in the contract of the first job. However, on August 1, 2022, a law comes into effect that makes such a prohibition no longer permissible without justification.
