More and more European cities are implementing environmental zones to improve air quality. This may sound like something for tourists to consider, but entrepreneurs visiting clients in Paris, Frankfurt, or Munich are also affected. The zones apply to everyone, without exception.

France: the Crit'Air sticker
For business traffic to France, the Crit'Air sticker is mandatory. Yellow and red stickers are no longer accepted in most zones, and very old diesels without a particulate filter are no longer eligible at all. Note: even electric cars with a foreign license plate need the green sticker to enter an environmental zone. Driving without a sticker results in a fine of around €100.
Unlike the French Crit'Air, there is no temporary digital version for the Umweltplakette. The physical sticker must be affixed to the window before entering an environmental zone.
