In 2018, these are no longer just quick marketing buzzwords. They are aspects that can help you positively differentiate yourself from your competition. Which entrepreneur wouldn't want that? Having your company vehicles run on electricity can yield you more than you might initially think. The percentages and tips below are from WagenPlan, the well-known innovative player in the leasing market.

Are your company vehicles due for replacement?

And get all the information needed to make a smart choice between buying and leasing your new (electric) company vehicles.

Range is getting better

You might think that the range is too low to drive electric. However, you will be surprised at how quickly it increases with the current fleet of electric vans. You can check out the list from ANWB which, together with Natuur en Milieu, has compiled a list of the current offerings of electric vans.

Additionally, it is useful to keep in mind that electric driving is particularly interesting for companies that operate locally. Think of a maximum of 20,000 km per year.

And now for the price. Because that’s where it gets really interesting.

Significant tax deductions for electric vans

When is electric driving financially attractive for businesses? You might be put off by the purchase price compared to cars that traditionally run on fossil fuels. But wait, it’s not as high as it seems. The government encourages electric driving, and that provides you as an entrepreneur with interesting tax deductions. And that makes driving on electricity suddenly very appealing.

Think of two tax deductions:

  1. MIA (environmental investment deduction)
  2. VAMIL (arbitrary depreciation of environmental investments)

If you meet the conditions, this saves you a lot of money as an entrepreneur.

To mention some percentages, depending on your specific situation, you should think that 36% of the purchase costs is deductible from the taxable profit (MIA).

But you’re not done yet, because 75% of the purchase costs can be depreciated arbitrarily via the VAMIL.

You can see how that works in the infographic from the tax office.

Deploying electric vans? A few tips...

What should you consider when contemplating deploying electric company vehicles? The following questions will help you in your approach.

  • How many kilometers will the vehicle need to drive?
  • What is the range of those kilometers (only in the city/region, or further away)?
  • How much (charging) power do you need for the intended tasks?
  • How large should the vehicle be for those tasks?
  • What is the actual cost per kilometer with all expenses accounted for?
  • What tax and legal regulations apply and how long will they remain in effect?

The answers to these questions will give you an initial insight into the applicability and availability of electric company vehicles for your business.
