The seventh edition of Dutch Media Week featured a very successful revamped format where both professionals and enthusiasts were presented with media innovation and inspiration for a week. Not only did the weekday program attract many media professionals to workshops, keynotes, and networking events, but the Xperience Days also drew the public from all over the Netherlands to Hilversum. The record attempt to create podcasts was a common thread throughout Dutch Media Week. Well-known and unknown podcast creators managed to produce a total of 153 hours of podcasts during an unprecedented relay.
On the morning of Saturday, October 1, Vincent Bijlo kicked off the record attempt during an interview with Hilversum's mayor Gerhard van den Top and 'Mr. Dutch Media Week' Herman Dummer. Throughout the week, podcasts such as 'De Leeuw lult verder', 'Dit was de radio', 'PodBast', 'Han Peekel 75', and 'Mand' alternated in a relay that ultimately resulted in 148 brand new podcasts and a new record of a total of 153 hours of produced podcasts. On Sunday afternoon, October 9, Vincent Bijlo concluded the successful record attempt during an interview with, among others, Herman Dummer and Eppo van Nispen tot Sevenaer.
ON/OFF
Dutch Media Week celebrates media in its broadest form: writing, online, and AV media. This year, the festival, together with visitors and over 80 partners, reflected on the theme ON/OFF and the question of how possible it still is to 'turn off' in a society where you are expected to be 'on' 24/7. From dawn walks, Creative Cup, and Dutch Game Day to presenting a joint innovation agenda by the media sector; the packed professional program offered business, innovation, and inspiration, but also a platform for new talent. New this year was the awarding of the very first Dutch Media Award, which was granted to Ikenna Azuike for the positive impact the media maker created last year, among other things with his podcast Vluchtnummers. Dutch Media Week was finally concluded with the Xperience Days, where the general public was taken into the world of media. This way, people could peek behind the scenes of various media creators, learn about the creation of media, and get hands-on during various workshops.
About Dutch Media Week
Dutch Media Week promotes, stimulates, and celebrates media. From October 3 to 9, 2022, the festival allows both creators and users to experience how important media are in our daily lives. This year, the largest media festival in the Netherlands, with the theme ON/OFF, addresses the pros and cons of a society where, thanks to advancing technology, more and more can and must be done online. Dutch Media Week is made possible by Beeld & Geluid, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Hilversum, Hilversum Marketing, and the Hilversum City Fund.
